Question and Answers

Orion Driver: Information for Your Role

For Airside Operations Management

Focus: Return on Investment, Scalability, and Operational Efficiency

Q: How does Orion Driver generate an ROI for the airport? A: The simulator reduces direct operational costs by eliminating the need to use actual fuel and vehicles for simulation training. Furthermore, it targets the "human error" factor in airside accidents—which cost the industry an estimated $10 billion USD annually. By better preparing drivers before they enter the airside, we minimize the risk of costly collisions and operational interruptions.

Q: Will implementing this disrupt our daily operations? A: No. A major benefit of the Orion Driver is offloading training traffic from your live taxiways and aprons. You can train heavily without taking up slot capacity or occupying runways, which is particularly critical as passenger numbers are projected to rise by 26% by 2030.

Q: Do we need to build a dedicated facility for this? A: No. We prioritize scalability. You can start with a "Desktop Station" using Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) hardware (PC workstation, ultrawide screen, steering wheel, pedals and VR glasses) that fits in a standard office. For a more mobile solution, we offer a mobile rig, which can be moved by a single person and requires no permanent infrastructure.

Q: Is the system scalable if our needs grow? A: Yes. The software is sold via a subscription model per workstation. You can easily add more licenses and hardware stations as your trainee pool expands and training needs evolve. We offer bulk discounts for multiple workstations and multi-year commitments.

Q: Who else is using this technology? A: Orion Driver is trusted by major international hubs, including London Gatwick (LGW), Sydney Airport (SYD), and Keflavík Airport (KEF) and Leeds Bradford Airport (LBA). Sydney Airport is currently operating a driving center that consists of 7 Orion Driver workstations.

For Training Managers & Instructors

Focus: Training Control, Student Throughput, and Realism

Q: How does this reduce my workload? A: The system features a "Supervisor Interface" that allows you to monitor multiple students simultaneously in real-time via a browser. It also offers unsupervised training that students can complete without direct supervision, with results automatically recorded into your LMS system.

Q: Can I train for scenarios that are difficult to replicate in real life? A: Absolutely. You can instantly trigger adverse conditions like heavy rain, fog, low sun, thunderstorms, and night driving. We also offer a specialized Winter Ops module for snowplow and convoy training in blizzard conditions. These scenarios are impossible to schedule on demand in the real world.

Q: Does Orion Driver integrate with our Learning Management System (LMS)? A: Yes. We offer API integration with LMS platforms, such as AIRDAT. This allows for the automatic recording of exam results and competency profiles, reducing manual data entry and duplication. The Orion Driver can integrate with any LMS system on the market.

Q: Can I create my own exercises? A: Yes, we provide custom exercises such as A-B routes with triggers and free open world driving. You are able to control these exercises.

Q: How realistic is the environment? A: We build a Digital Twin of your specific airport using real-world data, ensuring accurate markings, signage, and layouts. For maximum immersion, the system supports VR headsets (Meta Quest 3) to train depth perception and spatial awareness.

For Airside Safety & Security Management

Focus: Regulatory Compliance, Accident Reduction, and Safety Culture

Q: How does this improve airside safety standards? A: Aveo is a spin-off from Tern Systems, a leader in Air Traffic Control (ATC) solutions. We bring the strict safety culture and discipline of ATC into ground operations. The simulator provides a risk-free environment to practice emergency procedures and runway incursion prevention without endangering staff or aircraft.

Q: Does the system support Radio Telephony (RT) training? A: Yes. To support Class II license training, Orion Driver simulates pilot/ATC chatter and allows supervisors to issue ATC commands directly through the interface to test driver compliance.

Q: Does it help with regulatory compliance? A: Yes. Orion Driver helps you meet strict training and competency requirements set by EASA ADR, ICAO Annex 14, and CAA CAP 642. It provides an objective, data-driven record of a driver's competency that is audit-ready.

Q: How does the system track violations? A: The software includes a driving-violation engine that automatically detects and scores infractions based on your airport’s specific rules, such as exceeding speed limits, crossing double white lines, or failing to stop at holding points.
